What is myofascial flossing (aka fascial release)?

So, fascia flossing is like stretching, right?

It’s not really stretching, it’s Flossing.  A myofascial release you perform yourself (yep, no need for a myofascial massage therapist!).

Let's take a step back.  What's fascia?  Fascia or myofascia is the webbing surrounding the muscles in your body.  With a tensile strength greater than steel, this tissue provides structure for your musculoskeletal system and protects your muscles and deeper organs from trauma.

Fascia holds memory, and because it's designed to protect your muscles, your joints, your ligaments, your inner organs, over time, adhesions are prone to develop in the fascia constricting your body and restricting movement resulting in tightness.

That's where myofascial release aka fascia flossing comes in.  Fascia flossing allows those adhesions to break up, encourages your body to break up tightened areas of fascia that are no longer serving it.

Fascia flossing is a new way to stretch without stretching, rejuvenating your connective tissue from the inside-out.

Unlike stretching, fascial release is active, engaged, mindful, & connected.

Rather than holding a position to stretch out tight areas of your body, fascial release techniques rely on movement while you intentionally create resistance to release the fascia in your neck, shoulders, back, hips, and legs.  After completing a myofascial release flossing session, which can range from 2 to 3 minutes to a full hour, students say they feel like they’ve had a workout and massage in one.

What results should you expect? You'll feel the results of a fascial flossing session during your first session, and you're likely to see the results of a fascia flossing session immediately after that session.  You put in the effort, your tissue changes period.

Myofascial release sessions are the most sustainable and fastest way to become more comfortable and feel more spacious in your body.

About Bon:

Bon Crotzer was born to move.  A professional ballerina, she discovered fascia flossing through Bob Cooley's book, The Genius of Flexibility

After trying one flossing exercise, Bon knew she was onto something.

Something different than stretching, different than yoga, different than Pilates, all of which Bon has ample experience with.

Bon went on to work directly with Bob learning the intricacies of fascia within the body and how releasing this fibrous network with a tensile strength stronger than steel  not only improves mobility in the body but also aids function in deeper lying organs.

Bon uses her knowledge of acupressure points and TCM meridian lines to share how fascial flossing your quads or hamstrings encourages flow, of blood & energy, in these deeper tissues.

If you have travel plans this holiday season, fascia flossing will change your world providing release from tightness in the body so that you feel more spacious & relaxed & comfortable in your own body.
