Hiking and outdoor activities - We sometimes post about hiking trails, backpacking trails, and snowshoeing trails.  While we do our best to provide accurate information, please note that exploring the great outdoors is an adventure that has inherent risks (like all adventures) and that things change constantly (Mother Nature is wild).

Please check with your local state or national park or your local adventure/mountaineering club to be sure that the information we've shared is still accurate.

And, of course, we take no responsibility for accidents, injuries, or incidents incurred during your explorations of the great outdoors.

Lymph drainage and other holistic wellness practices - Lymph drainage is contraindicated for:

  • active local area of infection - for example, if you have a red hot, tight, and swollen area (acute tonsilitis or even just a local area of infection), hang tight until your body takes care of that infection before adding any type of lymph stimulation to your routine
  • congestive heart failure (CHF) - lymph flow reintroduces fluid to our cardiovascular system, so lymph drainage is absolutely contraindicated in patients with CHF
  • acute kidney failure or are on dialysis (promoting lymph flow often stimulates urine production and so if you are a dialysis patient or do not have sufficient renal function, it's very important to coordinate lymph drainage with your dialysis schedule - for this, please work with a licensed lymph drainage massage therapist AND your doctor to be sure lymph drainage is okay for you)
  • active blood clots - stimulating lymph movement could potentially dislodge a clot and allow it to become transient where it can cause heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism
  • active uncontrolled bleeding
  • untreated cancer - while manual lymph drainage techniques are often necessary after cancer treatment due to removal of lymph nodes during the course of treatment which can inhibit normal lymph flow, many sites indicate a potential risk of metastasis when manual lymph drainage is promoted in untreated cancer - definitely work with your licensed lymph drainage massage therapist and doctor if you need lymph work during this period

Lymph drainage is pre-cautioned:

  • during the first three months of pregnancy
  • if you've had your spleen removed

Please know this is not a complete list so be sure to do your own research and talk with a licensed lymph drainage massage therapist (and your doctor) before performing any lymph drainage techniques if you fall into one of these categories.
