Sustainable Farming with Sustainable Harvest International founder Flo Reed

Sowing a Sustainable Harvest

Back in the 1990's, while Flo Reed was serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama, she witnessed first-hand the deforestation of huge swaths of tropical forests as desperate farmers sought new land to farm.

Recognizing these farmers were trapped in a vicious cycle of slash-and-burn agriculture in order to provide for their families. Flo began researching sustainable and practical alternatives.  In 1997, Flo launched Sustainable Harvest International, a grassroots movement to bring significant and lasting change to farming throughout Central America.

In the last 24 years, Sustainable Harvest International has expanded their reach to four Central American nations, worked with over 3,000 families, and planted 4 million trees as they work to stop and reverse deforestation due to agricultural demands.
