5 ways to use body oil

How to multi-purpose your body oil

The beauty of body oils is that they're multifunctional. Here's 5 ways to use your body oil for more than just, well, body oil.

Body Oils for Hair Care?

Some of my favorite ways to use body oil are for hair care! Here's three ways:

Hair Masque

Hands down my favorite way to use my body oil is as a hair masque. I have dull, flyaway hair that looks shiny and healthy when I do this...

How:

For "normal" hair, slather body oil onto dry locks from mid-shaft to the end of your hair. If you have insanely dry, brittle hair, start at the scalp and work down the full length of your hair.

If you tend to just have dry ends, treat only the ends.

The secret is to saturate your hair with the body oil and let it soak in for at least 10 minutes (ideally an hour) before shampooing.

Pro Tip: Start at the ends and work up. Hair tends to be driest at the ends and less dry towards the scalp thanks to your natural oils.

To avoid looking like a grease pit after this treatment (or like you missed shampooing a section), start applying the oil at the ends and work your way up. It doesn't take a lot of oil to saturate the hair, and it's easier to work with one pump at a time (I generally do two to three pumps for my hair).

Shampoo twice focusing on the scalp and follow with conditioner. Even though most of the oil's worked into the ends of your hair, follow normal shampoo protocol 🙂

Tame Flyaways

For the washes where I don't pre-treat with a body oil hair masque, I take a pump of body oil and disperse it between my palms by rubbing my hands together a few times. Then, I'll run my hands along the ends of my hair to make the ends behave and smooth down flyaways.

Pro tip: A little goes a long way! Anytime I'm working with oil in my hair care routine, I start at the ends. It's a lot easier to get rid of excess oil (whether by blending it in or by applying a little bit of cornstarch to soak it up) when it's on the ends than when it's closer to the scalp.

Aromatherapy Hair Oil / Natural Perfume

A sure-fired way to get the scent of your body oil to linger for longer is to pop it on your locks. A little goes a long way, so start with half a pump and disperse between your fingers before applying to your hair.

There's two easy ways to do this...

  1. Follow the steps for taming flyaways above.|

  2. Apply to the base of your scalp. Your body heat will help to wake up the fragrance notes and this is a great way to give your scalp a little extra TLC.

Shave Oil

I use body oil instead of shaving cream for all shaving purposes. There's really no magic to this (other than insanely silky legs after shaving 🙂). Why body oil as a shave oil? It's all natural and nourishing.

Pro Note: The membrane surrounding each and every one of your skin cells contains fatty acids. These are abundant in the body oil. Shaving (because it's an exfoliation process) encourages absorption of this oil into the skin where it is better available to cells for cellular repair and recovery.

Highlighting Oil

Instead of your normal bronzer or highlighter, body oil works incredibly well for glowing up. Apply as you would your normal bronzer or highlighter to your collarbone.

If you're acne prone, use I am Enough to highlight cheek bones and any other areas of your face.
